The Illinois Education Association (IEA) is an organization that supports USofCC and is a member of the powerful National Education Association (NEA). The IEA divides the state into regions to ensure equal administration to its members. USofCC is part of region 67, made up of 5-6 other higher education institutions, with whom they share a labor union expert who guides and supports the executive board. This position is referred to as the UniServe director (UD). The UD helps organize, negotiate contracts, arbitrate grievances, run training programs, and ensures the union has access to the many services available to IEA members. Legal representation is another important service provided by the IEA. Your IEA membership automatically provides you with $1 million in professional liability insurance coverage. This coverage includes attorney fees to defend members from employment-related civil lawsuits.
