Hello USofCC Members,

Below is a brief update from the union’s July Labor Management meeting:

Performance Evaluations

Management has agreed with the staff union that the uncertainty of staff assignments due to college restructuring warrants a hiatus on performance evaluations this cycle.

HR said it will remind managers that any revised job descriptions are due by mid-August and to include staff in discussions regarding new responsibilities.

HR will encourage managers in schools that are minimally affected by restructuring to “check in” with their staff in lieu of performance evaluations.

Exempt Staff Reporting Change

Soon, staff who have been categorized as exempt will not be required to submit timesheets for time worked. They will only log time that they take off: sick, vacation, and personal time. An announcement explaining the change will come from HR soon

Chicago Ordinance Update

Columbia has updated its policies on paid leave and paid sick time to comply with a recent City of Chicago ordinance. Staff sick time will now roll over—we won’t lose accrued and unused sick time at the end of the calendar year. Read more on HR’s website:

Separately, the USofCC Negotiations Team is working on a separate proposal regarding sick time and other time off benefits.

Thank you all for your service to our students.

In Solidarity,
