Volunteer union members began bargaining for a new contract May 20th, 2024. The team has met weekly with administrators. Throughout bargaining this contract, we will be sending out regular bargaining updates! These will be through the newsletter and also posted on our website.
What happened this week:
We are excited to share that our proposed amendment to our Position Evaluation clause (Article VII.F) was accepted by the college! This amendment put into writing procedures for group position evaluations, including position evaluations that may have started outside of official procedures, with the intention of having a more direct line to HR rather than having to go through a manager. We also added a sub-section (Article VII.F.e) that allows unit members who have an increased workload or scope of work due to the elimination or vacancy of a position to start the position evaluation process so that they are compensated correctly for their workload.
The first win of this contract negotiation season has been the implementation of Open Bargaining. Open Bargaining means that all members are welcome as silent observers to every bargaining session. Importantly, members who were laid off during this last round (May 30th) are also welcome.
We want your support! Please support the union by observing our bargaining sessions. Bargaining is more effective when management sees that membership is invested in our proposals.
Through July 31st, all bargaining sessions will be on zoom every Monday at 10am CST (info below). Occasionally these meetings are rescheduled for a different time, and we will update you on the session time in those cases.
More bargaining info, among other topics, will be covered at our General Membership Meeting this Wednesday, the 26th, at 12pm. (register for GMM here)
